Sir John Nutting, QC

- Judges and Barristers -

The top resident Judge at the Old Bailey is Peter Beaumont. He usually sits in Court Six and holds the title of  The Recorder of London.

The only woman Judge at the court is Ann Goddard QC. She usually sits in court 11.

My favourite Judge at the Old Bailey is Christopher Moss. QC. He seems most in tune with public opinion and always seems to get his sentencing about right. He can be both merciful and harsh and his final remarks are always right on the button.

The top prosecutors at the Old Bailey are in my opinion Old Etonion Sir John Nutting QC, who is a charming and helpful member of the bar, who always takes time out to speak to everyone. He prosecuted the first and only war criminal case to be tried in this country.

Orlando Pownall QC the prosecutor in the trial of Barry George, who was jailed for life for murdering TV presenter Jill Dando. David Waters, who prosecuted Jeffrey Archer. Richard Horwell who by an large gets allocated all the best murder trials and Richard Latham QC whose advocacy was responsible for putting Ian Huntley behind bars for the Soham murders. Others include Nigel Sweeney QC and Mark Dennis.

The man regarded as the top defence barrister in the country is Michael Mansfield QC. who has defended in several terrorist trial and also Barry George. He rarely wins his trials because most of the cases he takes on are forlorn hopes. Other top defence barristers are Courtney Griffiths QC, who has won many cases against the odds. He represented one of the youths cleared of murdering 10 year old Damiola Taylor. Lord Carlile QC who got Royal butler Paul Burrell off the hook and Lady Mallalieu QC, who also defended in the Damiola Taylor trial.

The defence barrister to watch is Michael Wolkind QC. He is the man I would chose to defend me if I ever fell foul of the law.
